The Three Letters

You've been called a lot of things. I wonder what they'd call you if they knew the whole story.

Three letters about the things people love about you, the things they overlook, and the wonderfully specific parts of yourself that deserve a little more attention.

For the woman who's good at handling things, making things easy, and saying she's fine. Written with affection, curiosity, and the occasional spectacularly inappropriate observation.

Someone calls because they know you'll know what to do.

You listen, ask a few questions, find the sensible next step. By the time you hang up, they're feeling considerably better. You've somehow acquired three new things to think about and a coffee that's gone cold.

Later, someone asks where you'd like to go for dinner.

"Whatever works!" you say.

And it does. Everyone's happy. You have a lovely evening. On the way home, you pass the little restaurant you've been wanting to try for months.

Oh. That place.

Then there's the familiar question. "How are you?"

"Fine," you say.

And you mean it. There are good things in your life. People you adore. Plans that excite you. A group chat containing material that could end several respectable careers.

There's also an entire collection of thoughts, preferences, memories, and peculiar little enthusiasms that rarely make it into conversation.

The woman who once had very definite opinions about music.

The one who loved making things with her hands.

The one who still thinks about a place she visited fifteen years ago.

The one who occasionally wonders what happened to that ridiculous idea she used to have.

She's still interesting company.

I wrote three letters because I'd like to get to know her.

What lands in your inbox

Three original letters. Three familiar experiences. Plenty of room for your own thoughts to wander.

01

Letter 1

The Strong One

"I knew you'd handle it."

A lovely compliment. Occasionally, you'd also quite like someone to ask how you are.

02

Letter 2

The Easy One

"Whatever works" works a little too well.

You're wonderfully easy to accommodate. Especially when your preferences never enter the chat.

03

Letter 3

The Woman Who's Fine

Your life can be good. You can want more of you.

There's room for the things you miss, the opinions you've revised, and the utterly impractical things you love.

Three letters. A few laughs. Perhaps a moment when you recognize yourself in a sentence you weren't expecting.

Who these letters are for

You might recognize yourself here if:

  • You're the person people call when something needs handling, and you generally enjoy being good at it.

  • You've become very accomplished at making life pleasant for everyone around you, sometimes forgetting to consult yourself.

  • You've built a life with plenty to appreciate and still find yourself curious about what else might belong in it.

  • You enjoy intelligent conversation, affectionate irreverence, a good story, and the occasional observation that makes you laugh in public.

  • You have a fondness for the women you've been, including the ones whose judgment was, frankly, questionable.

You can arrive exactly as you are.

Bring your opinions, your sense of humor, your complicated feelings about your twenties, and that hobby you keep threatening to take up.

I'd love to hear about the hobby.

And after the third letter?

Some conversations are worth continuing.

The Three Letters are an introduction to Girl Goes Postal, a year of correspondence delivered through your actual mailbox.

One envelope each month, containing an original letter, a small ritual, a journaling question, two recipes, and music inspired by the month's theme.

Something to read with your coffee. A recipe to try on a Sunday. A song that takes you somewhere unexpected. A question that stays with you while you're doing something else entirely.

After your first three letters, I'll keep writing over the following six weeks, sharing more stories, reflections, and glimpses of the world behind Girl Goes Postal.

You'll also have the opportunity to join the waitlist for the next Reading Season.

For now, our correspondence begins with three emails.

Let’s start with the unsanitized version.
